Kate joined Portsmouth Hospitals Charity as Head of Charity five years ago and, in 2024, also took on the role of Head of Charity for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity. She leads on income generation, oversees requests for the use of charitable funds, and ensures strong governance across both organisations.
With more than 25 year’s experience in the charity sector, Kate has worked across a diverse range of organisations, including Help the Aged, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, and UNICEF UK. Her career highlights include contributing to Soccer Aid and reporting on UNICEF’s response to the 2011 famine in Somalia.
Reflecting on her role, Kate says: “I’ve always wanted to work in the NHS, inspired by my mum, who was a nurse for many years. When I saw this opportunity, it felt like the perfect fit. What I value most is seeing first-hand the difference charitable donations make to patients across both Trusts every day.” Kate moved to Portsmouth 13 years ago with her husband, who is originally from the city, and they have two children, Orla and Dylan.
Outside of work, she spends much of her time on the sidelines of football pitches supporting her children or cheering on Pompey FC Women. In the summer, Kate enjoys kayaking in Langstone Harbour and attending live music at Victorious Festival.

It’s great to see the difference you make to the people you are fundraising for. Working for a hospital charity is so unique in that I can help so many people across different wards and departments, so it could be cancer, or children or dementia or heart. Sally involves all her four children, Ben, James, Darcie and Brianna in fundraising an enjoys fundraising in both Portsmouth and Isle of Wight.
Outside of work she enjoys visiting the theatre and cinema, and volunteers as a trustee and as a volunteer for UK Pantomime Association and visiting venues and enjoying afternoon teas!
