"It's been lovely to be able to simply pick up my baby and support her, without having to worry about physical barriers getting in the way," says new mum Molly.
That's thanks to funding from Portsmouth Hospitals Charity and Ickle Pickles Children Charity, that has enabled our NICU to purchase two Lifetherm cots.
The specially heated gel mattress on the cots is designed to keep the baby warm without the need to be enclosed in an incubator. This open care system enables much closer contact with their parents.
"These cots help families feel more involved in their baby's care," says Alexandra Dawson, Neonatal Feeding Lead. "Keeping your baby close gives parents more opportunities for skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding and responding to their baby's cues, which helps to build confidence throughout their NICU journey."
